Governor Steve Beshear has finally
ordered the release of child abuse fatality records of children in state care. The Herald Leader and Courier Journal have both been requesting such records and the ensuing legal battle has been on ongoing theme in the state. "Transparency will be the new rule," Beshear said in a press conference.
After the tragic death of 9 year-old Amy Dye at the hands of her 17 year-old adopted brother, the pressure has been on for better treatment and monitoring of children in state care. Garrett Dye was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison after admitting to bludgeoning Amy to death with a jack handle.
