Eight men belonging to a religious Amish sect were arrested Tuesday in Graves Co. after refusing to display orange and red triangular safety signs on their horse-drawn buggies. The Amish men refused to pay fines for their violations, claiming it would compromise their religious beliefs. The men will now serve 3-10 days in jail. Graves County Jailer, Randy Haley, said the men came to serve their sentences bearing bibles and they were all given dark jumpsuits. The Kentucky Court of Appeals refused to hear the case and it has since been sent to the Kentucky Supreme Court. There has been no report as to whether the Kentucky Supreme Court will hear the case.
