An article today in the Courier-Journal focuses on donations given to gubernatorial candidates Steve Beshear and David Williams, and to their political parties. The analysis covers all itemized contributions to the candidate committees during the primaries, as well as contributions to the political parties after last year's November elections. In short, the CJ found that Gov. Beshear's and the Democratic Party's biggest donors were 1) officials from the R.J. Corman Railroad Group of Nicholasville 2) Churchill Downs and 3) individuals associated with Cash Express, the state's largest payday lender. For the KY GOP and Senate President David Williams, the biggest contributions came from 1) Houchens Industries 2) Stephens Pipe and Steel, half-owned by Williams, Father-in-Law, Terry Stephens and 3) Cash Express. There were no stats given on independent candidate Gatewood Galbraith. All candidates must submit information considering donations and contributions to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance in October.
