Senator Mitch McConnell believes the first credit downgrade in U.S. history could actually be a good thing. When asked Saturday about the affect of the U.S. slip in credit rating from AAA to AA+ by Standard and Poor, a U.S. based financial service, Sen. McConnell replied, "I hope it will be helpful. It further underscores the need to do a lot more." The Senate Minority Leader continued, "I don't think we are going to see anymore clean debt ceilings, that is, debt ceilings increased with no effort to do something about the debt in the foreseeable future."
